Welcome to Von Monte-Haus GSD! VMH was established in 1995 in Northeastern CT with the purchase of our first German Shepherd named Montana (aka Monte). Montana and I trained and worked in various sports such as Agility, Obedience, Tracking, and Herding. Montana made things SO easy and we went on to compete and earn titles in Obedience, Agility, Herding, she was certified as a Canine Good Citizen by AKC and earned her Therapy Dog Certification from Therapy Dogs International. Although Monte was never bred, I know I would not have the knowledge of training that I do today if she was never in my life. For that reason, I named my "kennel" after her. I am proud to say that Monte is now 13 years old and is doing well. Please be sure to visit her webpage!
As well as Montana, I have owned and handled many German Shepherds as well as providing a safe haven to hundreds of homeless GSD's from breeders unwilling to take back their dogs when their owners could no longer keep them. Some of these homeless dogs have been placed as Working Police and Assistance Dogs. You can find information on each of these dogs that I have owned on each of their webpages as well as information on those dogs who were placed as Working Dogs.
You will find that the breeding dogs are from some of the best East German (DDR), West German and Belgian Working Lines available in the US and Europe. I do blend these lines to produce what I believe to be the ultimate Working & Companion Dogs with the best health and solid temperaments. We do occasionally have Long Coated pups and do keep a waiting list of interested parties wanting "fuzzies". Our dogs are considered "medium" sized and grow to between 55 and 75 pounds and are Solid Black, Black Sable, Red Sable and occasionally Black & Tan.
Currently, our pups are excelling in Obedience, Agility, Tracking, Assistance, Search & Rescue, and most important of all, active Family Companions. What more could someone ask than for a dog who will love the family, play with the children, and still protect your home? That is the beauty of the German Shepherd Dog!
When a puppy leaves my home, it does NOT leave the family! When you purchase a VMH puppy, you are purchasing a lifetime commitment from his/her breeder. I will help you with any training issues that you may encounter, give medical advise, provide my general knowledge of the breed, occasionally I can babysit, and if anything EVER happens, would buy back your dog. I DO NOT sell dogs for resale!!!
Our dogs are ALL certified by OFA for Hips, Elbows, and Heart (Cardiac) as well as CERF certified for Eyes. I do NOT understand why a breeder would put two dogs together without what I consider to be the basics of dog health (Heart, Eyes, Hips, Elbows). Without those basic body functions, you might as well not bother caring about the temperament as the dog will be ill, crippled, or blind! Once we evaluate these simple things, I will evaluate the dog for temperament, then conformation. I know genetics can play tricks and things can always happen even with the healthiest of parents but I don't understand why a breeder wouldn't want to stack as many cards in the favor of his/her pups that they bring into this world. |
